On June 5, our Partner Georgi Gradev and Senior Associate Jakob Strasner from the Sofia office attended the Sports Law Conference, brilliantly organised by the Slovenian Sports Lawyers Association.
Georgi had the honour of sharing a panel with two outstanding colleagues: Jacopo Tognon – a renowned CAS arbitrator from Italy, and John Shea – one of the UK’s leading sports lawyers and, importantly, a fellow Manchester United supporter.
The panel tackled one of the hottest topics in football law: liquidated damages and buyout/release clauses – their possible reduction, the limited (or non-existent) role of mitigation and the applicable law governing such clauses in CAS appeal proceedings.
