CAS rejected the request for provisional measures (request for a stay) by the Bulgarian Chess Federation 2022 in the appeal against a decision of the International Chess Federation (“FIDE”)

Among others, CAS found that BCF 2022 did not prove it was facing irreparable harm because it was not a FIDE member and a stay would not automatically recognize BCF 2022 as a member in lieu of another member, the Bulgarian Sports Chess Federation and the balance of interest tipped in FIDE’s favor as a stay would create a situation of legal uncertainty for the Bulgarian chess community and risk excluding Bulgarian chess players from competitions under the FIDE’s protection.
