Midfielder of FC SKA-Energia David Karaev is no longer “legionnaire” in Russia

Thursday, April 10, 2014, the RFU DRC decided that the midfielder of FC SKA-Energiya David Karaev should not be a “legionnaire” in Russia.

Karaev, who was born in Russia and has Russian citizenship from birth, participated in some football matches for Azerbaijani national team. Based on this fact he was registered as a “legionnaire” in Russian championship. He wished to change association and asked FIFA about that, but FIFA answered that if the player did not participate in official competitions for Azerbaijani national team, he can choose Russian Association without decision of FIFA Players Status Committee. Thereafter the player asked Football National League (FNL) to registered him not as a “legionnaire”, but he was refused. Point in this case set RFU DRC, FNL is obliged to register David Karaev not as a “legionnaire”. The Interests of David Karev were represented by the partner of Law Company «Legal Sport» Yury Zaytsev.
