Results of 2020

The time has come to sum up the results of 2020, and the first thing we cannot ignore is that this year turned out to be extremely difficult for all the humanity and for each of us individually. At the same time, it united many of us, brought us together. We began valuing great small joys: meetings with friends, healthy smiles of loved ones, the opportunity to travel the world, confidence in the future.

For several difficult months, the world seemed to be set on pause. The sphere of sports, like the whole of society, stood at a crossroads – either to stop the competitions completely or to take a risk and “pull the season out.” The sports community had to change very quick, while adjusting to the new reality. Generally, it worked out. The listeners of our podcast “SILA Prava” received all the latest information about the most important news in the world of sports with our comments. If for some reason the podcast passed you by – please, join us! Two and a half seasons are already available for listening, and there is still a lot to do ahead.

Crisis is always time for new ideas. We were no exception and in May 2020 together with Anna Dobatkina announced the launch of SILA Marketing, the purpose of which is consulting, marketing, legal and other assistance to athletes, clubs and federations in all sports. It has never been so easy for a brand and an athlete to find each other and start a partnership. In 2021, this sphere of our work will be continued and extended.

Unfortunately, we could not turn into effect everything we planned for 2020.The long-awaited 4th international sports law conference, which we have been holding for several years, did not take place this time. With concern for health and safety of our participants who should have come to us from all over the world, we decided to postpone the conference to 2021. Now we are full of hope and optimism to hold it in the new year.

During the year, we have won multiple cases in CAS, FIFA and national jurisdictional bodies.

SILA lawyers provided full support to its clients when making dozens of transfers and extensions of contracts. The most famous of them were transfers of Younes Namli to FC Colorado, Eren Derdiyok to FC Pakhtakor, Leonid Kuchuk to the position of coach at FC Dynamo Minsk, Alexandr Kokorin to FC Spartak, Eldor Shomurodov to FC Genoa, Bakhtiyor Zainutdinov and Chidera Ejuke to PFC CSKA, Alexey Miranchuk to FC Atalanta and many others.

2020 is the year of studying online. SILA partners and lawyers gave many lectures and seminars, both face-to-face and online. For example, Georgi Gradev once again gave a course of lectures to the students of the world’s leading sports institute – ISDE in Madrid. We are also proud to continue our cooperation with the leading universities in Russia – Moscow State University, Moscow State Law Academy and HSE University.

SILA did not establish new offices in 2020 but strengthened and enhanced the existing ones, increasing its influence in the respective territories. Professional lawyers, who you will definitely hear more about later, joined the SILA team.
