SILA International Lawyers successfully represented a football club before CAS

We are proud to announce that the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) has ruled in favour of our client, a football club (due to the client’s request for confidentiality, the parties’ details are not published this time).
Having analysed numerous arguments put forward by the parties, CAS confirmed the initial decision rendered by FIFA. The arbitrators found that it was the player who terminated the employment contract without just cause. CAS stated that the player is not entitled to invoke his deregistration for competitions as a ground for termination if the deregistration occurred solely due to his own fault.
As a consequence, the player is obliged to pay compensation for the unilateral termination of the contract in favour of our client.
